Do you have a stove for heating in your home? Some have them as an addition to their existing heating to create a “cozy” room where you can enjoy the heat from a wood fire stove or something similar. While this is a very nice concept, there are some safety concerns with these types of devices. Since they need to vent harmful gasses and smoke outside, they are reliant on a chimney. Sometimes a blockage from buildup or even some critters nesting inside of the chimney can lead to a dangerous situation. It is also possible that there is heat being wasted because of the way the chimney is installed. Using thermal imaging, you can get a good idea of whether or not everything is working as intended. To get the best picture, thermal imaging should be performed both before and after the stove has been fired up. That way you can see if there is cold air intruding into your home from the chimney or if the area around the chimney needs to be insulated better. You can also see whether there are areas of your chimney that get too hot while the stove is in use, indicating a possible blockage.
